When applying for a marriage license, passport, or even a visa to travel abroad, you might be required to submit a Dutch Birth Certificate. Although all Dutch citizens are issued with short form (abridged) birth certificates, the only legal document they can use for travelling and other official use is the Dutch Full Birth Certificate or long-form birth certificate. On this page, you will learn more about what this certificate is and how we can help you obtain a copy of your vital document. There are two types of Dutch birth certificates, one being a copy (Dutch version) and the other being a multiple-language (international) extract of the certificate.
Your birth certificate is written proof that your birth is recorded in the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages. You have to request your certificate from the municipality where you were born.
What is a Dutch Birth Certificate?
The certificate is a copy of the entry in the birth register which details information on both biological parents of an individual. - The multiple-language (international) extract certificate contains a summary of the original certificate. It has explanations in 10 languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish and Serbo-Croatian.
