Do you need to apply for a Dutch Declaration of No Impediment?

- Permission from your parents, and in some cases from the government (Minister of Justice), if you are a minor
- Foreign documents which are not in Dutch, French, German or English have to be translated into Dutch by a sworn translator in the Netherlands
- Documents from certain countries must be legalised or apostilled
What happens after I obtain my Certificate of No Impediment?
As soon as your Dutch Declaration of No Impediment has been issued, it should be presented to the government body in the foreign country that initially requested it.
You might also be required to submit other documents in addition to your Declaration of No Impediment such as certified copies of your birth certificate and decree of divorce if you were married before. It remains your personal responsibility to find out which documents you require in order to get married abroad.
